My non-CRF cat Lola is being treated for a UTI. I took her back today for a re-check and she still has 4+ cocci in her urine on cystocentesis, (she's now on Clavamox.) The other problem is that she also has a high concentration of calcium oxalate crystals in her urine. She eats the same food as my CRF girls do, canned Purina NF (renal diet) and Hills Science Diet canned with aluminum hydroxide added as a phosphorus binder.

Does anyone here know if aluminum hydroxide contributes to the formation of calcium oxalate crystals?

I've posted this question to my Yahoo!groups for CRF and the Calcitriol group (where they discuss phosphorus binders a lot.) So far, I haven't gotten any response, so I thought I'd ask here too.

Thanks for any insight you might have on this issue!
