I think signs of diabetes are similar to those of humans...more drinking and more peeing.
She is drinking more water than I've seen her before the surgery. I'm not sure if it's because she didn't have any water and food at the Vet's. She's drinking, but not an excessive amount... She also didn't really eat much dry food, so I gave her a little bit of wet food, Fancy Feast which I don't normally give my kitties as a meal.Originally Posted by kluchetta

Thanks for sharing Sadie's photos. She's so cute with her collar. Since I took off Bumpy's e-collar for her to eat, I wasn't able to put it back on her. The plastic is so hard and I tried to put it back through her head, but it doesn't seem like her head can go through. But when she was wearing it at the Vet's office, it seemed so big on her. I don't get it. I just didn't want to hurt her since she was already weak. So, I slept right next to her all night, to make sure she doesn't lick the wound and pluck the stitches. I'm a light sleeper so every time she get up to move around, I'd know. But I was so tired last night, I didn't catch her licking it one time, but I think it's alright since it takes quite an effort for her to bend around comfortably to do the licking continuously. I think the antibiotic made her temperture more stable. When she came home her ears were pretty warm, but now they are normal. All I'm worried about now is whether she has diabetes or not. The drip they gave her was just subcutaneous fluids, not glucose so I don't think it affected her blood glucose. Before this whole thing happened, I don't believe she showed any signs of diabetes. I guess we'll know more in 10 days. Meanwhile after we get Bumpy's drain taken out tomorrow, I hope I won't have to lock her up in one room anymore. Her sister, Milukhu's starting to get nervous. She knows something's not right and almost poop on my bed last night! Oh dear...Originally Posted by xocats

Regarding e-collars....
They are miserable things but necessary post surgery.
My girl Sadie had surgery last year.
She had to wear one of the dreaded e-collars.
Just like Bumpy's, it was very large and awkward.
I cut her collar back so that it still protected her from licking her sutures but was much more comfortable for her to wear.
Her is a picture of her after the collar was trimmed along with several other kitties and their collars.

Open Bumpy's collar up all the way and just trim the unneeded part off.
Make sure that Bumpy cannot reach her sutures.
I am sending sweet Bumpy healing vibes.
Thank you KK...You're so sweet.Originally Posted by KittKatt
I have no experience with this issue, so I have no advice to give. But I just wanted to say that I don't think you're a bad Meowmy: cats are very good at hiding pain & illnesses - and how many times do we actully look at a cat's butt, unless we have reason to?
If you were a bad Meowmy, you wouldn't be concerned, and you wouldn't have taken her in to the vet in the first place..
More vibes coming your way for your furbaby!

I'm glad your kitty is fine now. I just hope Bumpy will be fine too. Thanks for letting me know your experience. It really helps.Originally Posted by Jencat
So sorry to hear about your kitty. I hope she heals up quickly. The same thing happened to my oldest about 5 years ago. He was very lethargic and sick. We took him to the vet and they determined he had an infection and a high fever but couldn't determine the cause. Finally after a week of antibiotics, multiple vet trips and not getting any better, blood showed up on his fur and they finally figured out what was the problem. His fur had hid the wound the entire time, even through multiple temperature checks. He stayed over night and was sedated like your cat for treatment. He came home with an e-collar and a drain tube and stitches. They later took the stitches out and the wound had to heal up open since it wasn't with the stitches. He recovered just fine and has never had a problem with an anal gland since. Once the antibiotics kicked in and the wound started to heal he felt a whole lot better. Hopefully your little one will feel better shortly.
Another e-collar tip....Originally Posted by nhlee529

Thanks much for the kind concern.Originally Posted by xocats

Is there a cotton tie that is threaded though loops at the part that sits on the neck?
cut the loops off if it won't make it to large...
it should then just slip over Bumpy's head.
That's what I did with Sadie...
and at feeding time I would take it off and stand beside her will she ate.
Cut, cut, cut .... "make it work for you" ...project runway.
Sending Bumpy getting the drain out, healing and no diabetes vibes.
How are you and Bumpy doing?
Thanks for the positive vibes.Originally Posted by glitch
Im glad she got the drain out!
But I sure wish she'd go #2!! It probably does still hurt right now though, do they have her on any pain medication? Pain meds tend to cause constipation also...
to you & for her!
I took the cover off the litter box already. Well, I just took off her collar again because she kept on hitting her head against the door trying to get out of the room. She was scaring her sister with the plastic scratching against the door. I guess I just have to watch her all night again....sigh.Originally Posted by EricSS
