Bruce is 11 years old 10 months
Unfortunately he was sick when I got him home in Sept 2012
Hecwas 4 months old and the breeder had bathed him and covered him in talc
The next day he was sick so rushed him to the vets
He had upper respiratory infection and spent 6 months on antibiotics

He's been a very sick cat all his life
I love him to bits
I've nursed him for almost 12 years
He has chronic cat flu and stomatitis
I've fed him wrapped in a towel for 5 years as he won't eat on his own

I was at the vets with him 2 weeks ago and got the rubbish vet
I wanted bloods tests done and a oap check
All he said was thin lost weight. I know that
Despite me feeding him 6 pouches a day he's not gain weight
I can feel. His ribs and spine
He is a lap cat and never leaves me alone. He gets in bed too
He purrs lots roots the cushions Seems OK despite no teeth permanent runny nose runny eyes
Congested
He's had another round of antibiotics and now one of his eyes is half shut
He's not pawing it. No foreign body no gunk eye
I just don't know what it is
I worry about him all his life

He really is the sweetest cat ever

Hello - is his eye still half closed? Have you had a chance to talk with a different vet?

Are you able to groom him a little?

Would there be any food listed in this thread I'm giving you a link to, that he can eat and that might help him to gain some weight back?

This was my first thought too - great minds think alike! I think it might be beneficial to consider getting a second opinion. You have devoted your life to him and he obviously trusts you so it wouldn't hurt to get an objective opinion from another vet in a different clinic.
In the meantime, I thought this article might have some helpful information regarding his eye for you since he may have an underlying systemic disease that is causing his eye to be half shut: Eye Problems In Cats - What Every Owner Needs To Know - TheCatSite

Poor Bruce has a lot of things going on and I don't know if they are all related. The brown spot in the white of his eye should be seen by the vet when you go for your next appointment.

If you have some green or black tea, you can take one of the bags from already brewed tea, and let the bag cool but still be moist, and try putting that on his eye.

Can you brush him a little?

Hi. I wouldn’t use anything in the eye at all, until you see a vet. The brown spot you describe does need to be seen, but more importantly, or just as important, is the weight loss.

If he was my cat, I would get him in asap and have blood work done. It is very important that you have them check his thyroid levels. He may be hyperthyroid and if so, it doesn’t matter what he eats, he won’t gain weight until the thyroid is controlled.

If you don’t care for that vet, try to find another, preferably a cat only vet.

I took him to vets 2 weeks ago and asked fir bloods
Was a foreign vet who just asked me is he drinking more or peeing more
No he isn't
He said he's fine and I've a busy waiting room
He couldn't wait to get rid of me

I'm waiting for reception to ring me with an appointment

You can't choose your vet unfortunately
Some are better than others

I do groom him. He looks messy just after I feed him in a towel as he gets food everywhere

I think a little moisture on that eye from a cooled teabag, while not a cure, could help with any discomfort.

Can you bring your cat to a different veterinary clinic where he may get more attention and better treatment?

The problem with teabags on eyes is that you don’t know what the tea has been sprayed with, what bacteria is on it. Everyone loves to recommend this. It isn’t good. I got one of the worst eye infections ever from a stupid tea bag. It just isn’t safe. Don’t you think if it worked vets would be prescribing it? Or that a pharmaceutical company would be making it medical grade? It truly isn’t safe. I know this from first hand experience and permanent diminished eye sight in one eye.

He's OK. Eye still the same. The vets have only just rang me
The only appointment they have is next Tuesday at 10.30
I requested the appointment online last Saturday, so. It's quite a wait
He's eating well.

I hope it's nothing serious with his eye, he has enough health issues
