...by John Vaillant.

I'm not a big reader.  Nor am I a good one; I may have to read a passage 3 or 4 times before it "sticks".  But I knew I had to read this book when I heard the author interviewed on NPR a few months back.

In short, the true story of a tiger in the Russian Far East that had endured enough of the worst of humanity, and takes it upon himself to rewrite the book on animal behaviour.  I'll let you do your own search to get more specifics in regards to plot.  I will say that upon finishing this book, I've never felt more empty and conflicted...at one time ashamed to be a part of an exploitive, parasitic species; and at the same time witness to some of the most compassionate people imaginable, against all odds.

Layer upon layer of suspense, ethology, sociology, geography, history...all intertwined beautifully.

The book is so much bigger than any feeble description I can give.  A MUST read for any animal/nature lover.
