these days, but feel led to post this letter I just received from a man who has been my spiritual advisor for over 20 years. I wrote him about my frustration regarding my friend ripping Mike and I off. This was his reply:
People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.
When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a Godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then at an inconvenient times, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they just walk away. Sometimes they merely fade away, or sometimes they do something so evil and out-of-character that it forces you to make a stand. What you must realize is that your need has been met, your desire fullfilled and their work is done. The prayer you have sent up has been answered and it is time to move on.
When people come into your life for a SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow and learn. They may bring you an experience of peace, or will make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never realized or thought about before. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real, but only for a season.
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons: those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the rules and lessons you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.It says that love is blind, but friendship is clairvoyant.
Then there was an attached prayer:
May today there be peace within you.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gits that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let His presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance and to bask in the sun. It is there for the asking.
