This kitten showed up at my window meowing madly at me. I heard a cat, looked out the window and he/she was staring right at me meowing as if asking for my help. Never have I experienced anything like this before in my entire life. I estimate the kitten was 6 weeks old (July 10th on national kittens day, what are the odds?) I was so intrigued that I asked my wife "let's go see what's up?" The kitten was very friendly and let us pick it up with no hissing, scratching, or any fuss at all. We had nothing to feed it, so I opened a pack of hotdogs and offered it half a dog which it hungrily ate. The cat loves to lay on my belly and shoulder and seems to not want to leave my side. Smart cat, I only had to put it in a box with litter one time and it has used it ever since, house training, sooo easy! Wish my dogs were that easy to train in the early stages. I wanted to give it to the Carteret County Humane Society but was told it would most likely be killed (euthanized is the "easy way of putting it".) so, I am now a cat owner, lol. Gets along very well with strangers and my two dogs which are a wirehaired Dachshund (13 years old) and a Beagle/Foxhound (2 years old.)

The kitten looks fairly young, probably only a few weeks old. Most kittens have blue eyes which are likely to change color in the next 2 or 3 months.

I've heard several judges at cat shows say all cats are tabby underneath. Black cats, especially as kittens, will often have ghost tabby markings that show up under strong light.

I don't see anything about the kitten that screams a particular breed. Without knowing the parental history s/he would be considered a Domestic Shorthair.

Beautiful kitty. Are you going to keep him/her?

I would describe this kitten as an adorable little black domestic shorthair. Most cats are not any particular breed.

It is normal for solid-colored cats (such as black or gray) to have "ghost tabby markings" when they are young that gradually fade. Bright light can sometimes still reveal the ghost stripes on solid-colored cats even when they are adults.

All kittens have blue eyes at first, but your kitten's eyes will probably change gradually to green or gold as she matures.
