black cat turned orange/brown?

I wonder why my black cat has turned brownish during the summer? She i still black on her head and paws though...

I have found two possible answers- that the sun bleaches the black fur and turn it red (and in combination with the black overcoat it looks brownish) or that it is her adult fur-colour  (she is 13 months).

Have you seen this before? What do you think explains it?

Yes, it happens. Black cats that go out in the sun a lot often get brown patches in their fur. It's known as rusting.

why is her head still black? Is is only the undercoat that gets brown?

Carpet is darker in the winter than she is in the summer, but you can still see a brown colour to her fur in strong light. Her head always stays black too. I'm not sure why that is.

Your girl's really pretty, what's her name?

I named her Ronja (ronja is one of the characters  in Astrid Lindgrens books). She is tiny (5 pounds, 2.7 kg). A petite girl!
