I'm making a cake for my BFF's birthday. Her birthday is tomorrow, but we are going out to dinner tonight. I think there will be 6 of us in total.
I found a quaint little Italian Restaurant in a trendy village area in our city. It comes highly recommended by several people I've talked to. So we're all looking forward to going.
The restaurant is allowing me to bring out own cake. They will put the candles in and light it and bring it out.
I took cake decorating last year and I really wanted to make her a fancy cake, but my back has been so sore. It's been acting up because of the cool damp weather we have been having, and on top of that I hurt it at work on Tuesday so now instead of just lower back pain which goes away when I sit and rest a few minutes, my upper back is bothering me and my arms go numb when I bend my arms, so doing a fancy cake is out of the question.
So as an alternative I'm making a black forest cake. I used a boxed cake mix for the cake, but doctored it up by adding butter instead of the oil, and some vanilla flavouring. I'm putting cherry pie filling in between layers and more on the top, then I'm going to wrap the sides with whipped cream, and pipe a nice border around the bottom and top. And then sprinkle with chocolate shavings around the sides. Not fancy, like I wanted, but it should taste good.
