Hi all -
I have two cats, a male and a female. Female is almost three, the male is one and a half. I also just moved into a new apartment, which is in an older building with hardwood floors.
This morning there was a note under my door from my downstairs neighbors. They were very polite and friendly, but mentioned that my cats tearing across the apartment had woken them up at least twice between 2:30 and 6:30AM. I feel their pain, because it also woke me up. And while I can deal with it if it was only bothering me, I feel terrible knowing that the noise is keeping them up, as well.
I do play sessions before sleep, and feed them before sleep. That keeps them okay until about 2. It's mainly my male cat who instigates things - he likes to jump and chase at my female, and then she's the one always trying to get away. What else can I try? I can't afford to constantly move in search of a place with sufficient soundproofing between the floors. I'm going to try keeping one cat in the bedroom with me tonight, but I'm afraid that will just get them yowling, which might not help in the noise department (and then might irritate my upstairs neighbor).
Has anyone else been in a similar situation? My neighbors seem like friendly people, which is good, but I don't want to make their lives miserable by all night cat stampedes.
