Hello, I took my cat (8.5 months old) to get neutered today. He's a male BSH and I just want to check with experienced cat owners here, how long does it normally take for the effects of anaesthetic to wear off? It's been about 9 hours since he woke up from surgery, he seems to be quiet and zoned-out. Eyes still fairly dilated. Will there be any significant changes in his behaviour?

Before neutering, he was very vocal and clingy. So yet to know if his habits will change.

It can take 24 hours for the anesthesia to fully wear off but usually by the next morning he cat is acting fairly normal. If they are on pain meds the cat can act a little strange while on them.

Depends on the anesthetic they use. Your kitty will probably be loopy for the rest of the day. He'll be normal by tomorrow. There isn't much likelihood there will be any lasting behavior changes.

I haven't had any pain meds for any of my recent cats' spay or neuter. They didn't seem to need them.
