Both chicken and chicken meal are provide protein. Chicken meal is a more concentrated source of protein since the water is removed before processing. I prefer to see chicken meal as the first ingredient rather than chicken...even more so I like to see a meat and a meal listed as the first and second ingredients rahter than just one or the other. IMO, if you compare the brands they offer for comparison, Authority is not that good. Their first ingredient is "chicken meal", which is not really the same as "chicken" (see this article: http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/CONSUMER/CON0290e.html)
And their next ingredients have nothing to do with meat.
