If you don't have the software running in realtime (which many don't default to that during the installation) then you have no problems.
Perhaps Diego was confusing Antispyware programs with Antivirus programs. If you have 2 AV programs installed at the same time (i.e. McAfee and Norton) then they WILL cancel each other out and become ineffective for protection.
However, as point out here, having 2 or 3 antispyware programs (not antivirus) can be quite effective. Often times they use different databases to help cross reference unneeded cookies and spyware on your machine.
