The owner says he's a himalayan/Persian mix, I follow him on instagram! Either way, he's one crazy looking kitty. I wonder what he'd look like if they trimmed him
If that is correct about his parentage, that means he IS a Persian. A " Himalayan - Persian mix" would be not really be considered a mixed breed like it would if it were for example a Maine Coon x Persian mix. since a Himalayan is really just a Persian with a pointed coat pattern. They just got the pointed gene from outcrosses to a few Siamese about 60 years ago. but it's not like they kept breeding to Siamese. They were later crossed back for many generations to full Persians. So now they are like >99.999% Persian.
In CFA, the Himalayan is classed as a division within the Persian breed.
In TICA they classify them a bit differently: they consider Himis a breed, but within the Persian Breed Group, and it's allowed to breed them to each other. And in some other countries , they don't even use the term Himalayan. they just call them Colorpoint Persians.
A Black Smoke is a really wild color especially in a longhair.
In a shorthair it's cool too. but different.
If you're wondering what Col Meow might look like in a shorthair version, google Black Smoke Exotic Shorthair.
For a different shorthair breed that has some very cool looking black smokes, look up Egyptian Mau.
Sadly, Colonel Meow has died. He had surgery and blood transfusion last November. The vets couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. He was only two years old......
