Sorry I've been gone so long...I feel bad popping in just for advice, but I've got to get my truck fixed. I hope everyone's doing ok.
I have an 88 S-10 Fuel injected, 2.8 engine size, v.6, with 71 thousand miles.
I think I may have a blown head gasket, but I'm not 100% sure. I'd like to know if you think that this is what's wrong. Here's the 'symptoms': Coming home 2 nights ago, my truck was overheating. It was driving fine and all the gauges were fine except the temperature. I know you're not susposed to drive one when it's overheating, but the temperature kept going down and I was only going about 40. The next day we checked the radiator it was only half full so we added a gallon of anifreeze and it wasnt enough. We then decided to see how it run and when we started it the truck kept dying right after I started it, but when I gave it more gas when it started to die it finally stayed running. Then the next day I put a new thermostat and took it for a test drive. It drove fine untill I got about 5 miles down the road. I went to turn into a road to head back home and it started to die. I went ahead and turned in so I could get off the main road and my check gages light had just came on. It wasnt overheating, so I think the thermostat fixed that, but the oil gauge was on zero. When I got home I checked the dipstick and I have plenty of oil, it just looks kinda white instead of clear from when I did my oil change about a month ago. To me this sounds like the coolant is leaking into the oil. My water pump may be out too because it can cause overheating and I've been hearing some sort of squealing noise sitting at lights. Currently I cant drive my truck untill I fix it. I need to do the cheapest and best thing. What does it sound like to you? A blown headgasket or what? My uncle's a mechanic and he said I have 2 options: replace the motor or take it apart, repair the gasket and hope it's just that. What do you all think? Thanks so much for your help! (Oh and I really dont want to sell my truck
