Thank you M ModernCatLady . I have the lickable treats and she is eating fresh chicken, anything to get the right number of daily calories. I will buy some of the Royal Canin you suggested incase she has a day of refusing food. I'm glad your cat is eating again, they can be such hard work and worry..but worth it.

My cat is doing the same thing!! She’s feral had her about 9 months now and she goes 2-3 days not eating any food. Then she goes back to normal then goes another 2-3 days. Her blood is normal they thought possibly an intolerance to her food but the hypoallergenic food hasn’t helped.

Yes, she's now a fat cat in the making. Whatever it was seems to have cleared up. She's still a little picky and wont eat her usual food but eats new that I bought for her. Thanks for asking.

Did you ever find out what happened to your kitty? Mine is displaying similar symptoms and our vet wants to give him antibiotics but doesn't really know what our cat has. He was examined the same way as yours because of coronavirus restrictions.

No positive diagnosis but thinks it was some kind of virus. It was two weeks before she started eating normally again. She was also given antibiotics on the first visit incase there was infection but blood tests showed the next day showed nothing.
What has been happening with your kitty?

You know when you eat something while your sick and and then you never want to eat it again? You develop an aversion to it. This happens to my dog once! I had to switch her food.
Just something to keep in mind. It sounds like there may be more going on than just this but just an idea. I'm so sorry 😞 I hope she feels better soon.

Thank you for your response. Just curious....did you continue with the antibiotics even though the blood results came back with nothing?
Our cat is 13 and has lung cancer. He was diagnosed 3 years ago. We give him natural medicine and a high calorie diet which has reduced inflammation of the cells. He was taken to the vet last week to get his mouth checked as he had some bleeding. They checked and found he had 3 bad teeth. They cannot pull them out as they can't put him under anesthesia due to his existing medical conditions. The vet just told us to bring stool samples from several days so they can rule out lung worms (in case we got the wrong diagnosis 3 years ago). Basically, she wants to see if she can put him under to pull out his teeth.
2 days after the vet visit, he developed severe diarrhea and we took him back to the vet the next day as he refused all food too. She injected him with I-don't know-what since my partner took him to the vet. It was last weekend. He took a turn for the worse over the weekend--not eating, lethargic, and diarrhea. He threw up just once. We rushed him to another vet on Monday and they injected him with more stuff. They took blood (the last vet did blood work to check for abnormalities for cancer) and did a whole blood panel and the results came back today as being normal. The new vet prescribed antibiotics as she thinks it might be an infection to cause diarrhea, loss of appetite, and lethargy. She doesn't know if it is an infection but she has prescribed antibiotics. I am hesitant to give them to him as it might tear up his stomach even more. So, I just wanted to know if I should give him the antibiotics or not even though I don't know what exactly they are for. I just gave him 5 ml of Slippery Elm Bark and will give another dose before bed. Other than that, he is not on any medication.

Sorry to interject, but if I were you I would call the vet ask what the antibiotic is, what it is for, and if one of the side effects can be diarrhea. If the vet says yes regarding the potential for diarrhea, ask what you could give him to help reduce/prevent that from happening, but let them know you are giving him slippery elm. They may say to stick with that and let them know if it doesn't work in helping to alleviate the diarrhea. Most antibiotics can cause stomach upset, but generally aren't as bad when you are able to administer them with food, so they are not on a empty stomach.

It would probably also help to find out what the injection was that he was given before the diarrhea started. And, if that injection has a potential for causing diarrhea. Usually an antibiotic injection won't be as bad on the stomach as when it is in pill form, so it would interesting to know exactly what it was.

Also, where are his past vet records? I am asking because it would be helpful if a new vet would be able to see the records/tests that were done at the time he was diagnosed with the lung cancer. Although not impossible, it is highly unlikely that he would have survived this long with lung cancer. Your new vet may see something the original vet missed. It is also important for you to keep on hand a copy of his records/invoices so that you have information available to you whenever you might need it. I started doing this when Feeby (now 15+) started having her senior exams about 5 or so years ago. I can keep better track as to what is going on with her by having them.

I have a list of questions for the vet when they reopen Friday. It is a 45 min. drive for me to get there and I have my kids with me as we are in lockdown. It will be most interesting driving back and forth with them just to pick up the meds.
I do know that one of the shots he got on Monday was penicillin. Another one was for anti-nausea and another for appetite but I could be wrong.
The lung cancer diagnosis was given by 3 different vets--two local ones at different practices, and one at the specialist hospital where they did a MRI of his lungs and confirmed the cancer diagnosis. They also gave us 2 weeks before he would be gone. That was in May 2017. His past records are with the old vet and she has agreed to send them to the new vet. The x-rays and blood work will be shared with the new vet. Unfortunately, I don't have a detailed history of his records--just the invoices which are not always detailed.

My vet gave Kiwi a slow release antibiotic injection that lasted two weeks. I would have thought that if there was an infection it would have shown up on the blood tests, wirth asking the vet. I use s boulardii when my cats have diarrhoea and found it really good.

Thank you. I am not sure what to do at this point but it looks like I want to stay away from the antibiotics (she prescribed the pills) and stick with Slippery Elm Bark. I have also ordered the S. Boulardii and a product called Bactisel which is supposed to restore the intestinal flora. Hope I am doing the right thing.

Give your vet a call and ask what the antibiotics are for, was any infection found in the blood tests, it may help you to decide what to do. We always want to do what is right for our cats but its such a big responsibility. Please let us know how you get on.

Thank you. I will call tomorrow. Meanwhile, Biscuit is eating almost his regular food intake now. I have been giving him 5 ml of Slippery Elm Bark twice a day and his stools are solid. Yay! He is still very lethargic but he perks up at night. I have been giving him food every 2 hours including the night so I am a little tired but the important thing is that he is improving without the antibiotics already.
