I first found this forum in July after my dearly beloved Cisco died at 12 years old and I was devastated. I've had cats all my life but he was the most intelligent, personable cat I've ever had the joy of sharing my world with.
After his death, he left his pal Samba in a funk. He developed litter box issues, he stopped playing, and became very particular about his food despite being declared healthy by the vet. We figured he missed the feline companionship and about a month ago decided enough time had passed and we could start looking for a new bed heater. We visited the shelters several times where we got both Samba and Cisco and on our third visit a moggy little tabby tapped me on the foot, licked my flip flopped toes and gave me a look that was clear. "Take me home, right now!"
Now it's me and my husband and Ruby and Samba who get along and at best tolerate each other. Samba's mood seems to have improved and he plays and runs like he used to but Ruby doesn't understand morning pattycake games that Cisco and Samba used to play on either side of the door when I got up to feed them. Still, she's wonderful and talks constantly, especially when she's chewing bones and I know we were adopted by the right cat.
So hello all from Samba and Ruby's well trained feeder!
