Plus, you really need to include 'The Hobbit' and 'The Silmarilion' in the page count for LOTR, which brings the total to over 2,000.
So your glee is maniacal because you're on the last book and you know that the torture is about to end?
I'm now 197 pages into Written In My Own Heart's Blood, and I've been giggling like a maniac for the last several dozen pages. What a comedy of errors! For those of you who think that Claire and Jamie suck ditchwater through purple straws, you will just have to pardon my maniacal glee.
I am diligently searching for a copy of Naked Came the Sasquatch, by John Boston. I read it years and years ago, and laughed till my sides hurt. It's a who dunnit that turns into a what dunnit that turns into a which what dunnit, with a goodly heap of romance, both for Our Hero, and the good "what," who is a likeable monster, indeed.
I read all of Tolkien's works. And all of George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. All very long, but very enjoyable. I devoured all of them several times. One year I read nothing but the LoTR books. It takes me about 1 month to read all 3 books. I would start from the beginning again right after finishing the last page of the last book. LOL I've recently put them back on my eReader.Plus, you really need to include 'The Hobbit' and 'The Silmarilion' in the page count for LOTR, which brings the total to over 2,000.
And this is why it takes a lot of different spices to make the stew tasty! I have enjoyed every page of every book.

Getting through book 3 was like trying to march through the La Brea tar pits while wearing iron boots for me. Slooooow and painful. This is me hitting Claire. I wish.
I've been on bookbub.com a lot lately. They have free ebooks from pretty much every genre you can think of and I have been taking full advantage of that.

I am on the fence about Martin. I've read all of the books to date, and each one was a struggle to get through, but every time I finished one, I thought, "Well...THAT was interesting!" Keeping up with all the story threads was wearing, but each story individually was fascinating. And I'll be reading the next one, if I'm still alive when it comes out, LOL! He isn't very fast...

LOL, he's not a very speedy writer! James Patterson can bang out a dozen books in a year. George takes 6 years for one.

Have you considered just cancelling HBO entirely and ordering the dvds when they come out? That's generally cheaper if you only get a channel for one show! The only reason I have Starz is because it is cheaper to have it than to not have it with TWC.

I started watching Game of Thrones without having read the book. OMG! Talk about being confused! I watched the first season, and then when season 2 came, I watched that. I was still confused and had no clue what I had watched. So I decided to read the books. Then it made sense. Lots of characters, lots of stories, lots of subplots, lots of minor characters that play a big role......
I'm watching GoT from the beginning. I'm about to start Season 4. After I get through Season 6 I'll cancel HBO until next summer when Season 7 starts.
I wonder if they are going to resurrect Catlyn Stark in the TV Show like she was in the book. She died in Season 3, and in the book she was resurrected 3 days later. Maybe Bran will have one of his flashbacks and we'll see her resurrected as Lady Stoneheart at some point.
I'm decluttering, so I don't want a bunch of DVD's hanging around. I'd end up throwing them out at some point. I'd just rather pay for a few channels for 10 weeks.

I can read books with my Kindle app on my iPad even if I am offline. That and the fact that if there is a severe weather event, and my power is out for several days (done that a few times), I don't have to plug my books in to read 'em.
oh, given that I read several hours a day, most days, I was more thinking of dead batteries. I wouldn't even think of something that was internet-dependent. The only reason I really want one is to take along to medical appointments. Easier to lug around.I can read books with my Kindle app on my iPad even if I am offline.
Currently reading Jude the Obscure. Just finished Tess of the D'Urbervilles so am continuing with Hardy. Both books were free on Amazon/Kindle.
I believe she's referring to the problem of charging her tablet (if she has one) when the power is out. However, I think that all she has at this point is her new Win 10 desktop that her son bought for her. Desktop computers definitely have problems during power outages. My Nook, first generation piece-of-junk iPad, and Android phone will all charge with a pocket charger in a pinch. My laptop, not so much.I can read books with my Kindle app on my iPad even if I am offline. That and the fact that if there is a severe weather event, and my power is out for several days (done that a few times), I don't have to plug my books in to read 'em.

Yes, and I use it, via the cigarette lighter. I can charge any of my portable devices except the laptops in my car. There's no way @Mamanyt1953 could charge her Windows 10 desktop this way! These days most vehicles have USB charge ports available. The last time I lost power for several days, I used the one on my truck's stereo (once the neighbors cut the tree tops off the truck).
I also get daily emails from BookBub, and I love it. In fact, I just finished dealing with today's BookBub. But I'm also subscribed to a couple of similar email ebook subscriptions: Early Bird Books: http://www.earlybirdbooks.com/ and Free Nook Books. There are a couple of problems with the Free Nook Books emails, though:So your glee is maniacal because you're on the last book and you know that the torture is about to end?
