After I take Penelope for a walk in a new area,so I wipe her feet off?if so what kinds of wipe?I usually just walk her(on a body leash/harness only in our back yard.I would like to expand our exercise area but I want to keep her safe.
Hi!
It depends on where you're walking and what your concerns are, I think. If you're concerned about fertilizer and weed killer used on grassy areas, then yes.
A dip of each foot into warmish clean water with a walk across a fluffy towel might be enough.
There are lots of wipes on the market but finding a truly safe one with as few chemicals, no fragrance, or other additives is challenging. I saw one a couple days ago where the ingredients were water and grapefruit juice. This sounds good, yet I don't know without checking the aspca if grapefruit is safe to be used on cats.
Hi. In addition to Furballsmom
's suggestions, you could try using GNC's unscented, hypoallergenic wipes which I found at PetSmart. I was using them on Feeby's booty (since she wasn't cleaning herself) - so, if they are safe for her behind, they ought to be safe for your Penelope. But, tbh, some water and a mild soap (perhaps, Dove Sensitive Skin) with a couple of paper towels ought to do the trick.
If I have to wipe dogs feet off, I just use an old damp towel but I'm lazy
If the concerns is something that could potentially harm her I would consider using a soap and hot water, but if you're walking in non-treated grass or on pavement, I think just a damp towel would work.
If you find wipes you like, just make sure they're cat-safe and don't contain something that could hurt her if she licks her feet.
