I know I'm going on and on about these blasted fillings but I've just had them done and they've given me no aftercare advice. What or what not am I supposed to do and more importantly when can I eat and drink?
Can you not call and ask them? Sometimes they assume we know and just don't tell us. I would suggest you just ring up the dentist and ask those questions.Originally Posted by Shem

Thank you so much. The numbness has gone now and the pain is setting inOriginally Posted by Oz'sMum
I've had loads of fillings over the years. The advise is normally to be careful while you're still numb, if you had a jab. But normally once the numbness wears off they're normally set, but I usually take care what I eat, no toffee or gum or hard things, for a day or so, normal common sense really.
Don't worry too much about them, they set quite hard quite soon, I've never had any fall out.

Ok, wait 24 hours before eating and drinking normally...a drink or soft food (like apple sauce or mac and cheese) carefully is ok once the anesthesia wears off. Take it easy today! Definitely don't eat or drink anything while you're still feeling numb.
Thank you tooOriginally Posted by rosiemac
I would give the surgery a ring, but times have changed now with regards to eating after having fillings, mine normally tells me i'm ok to eat once the numbness has worn off but to make it something soft, and even the numbness wears off quicker than it did years ago

Thank you.. it's all ok now, just a bit tenderOriginally Posted by zak&rocky
Take a few ibuprofen- that will help with pain. Don't use your tooth as a tool- to open stuff to get off a cap. It shouldn't hurt too much- if it does that's not good! I had a filling that didn't stop hurting and it turned into a root canal!!!!! And if you want to be on the safe side, avoid the chewy stuff. I think my dentist sometimes said not to eat for an hour- i would think that's long gone!
