Hello! New to the site, though I've lurked for awhile. I was adopted by a beautiful white cat on April 23. We've named her Vera. I took Vera to the vet April 27 for a check up, and the vet informed us that she's healthy, about a year old, and pregnant! The vet discovered the pregnancy while checking out her abdomen. She didn't feel movement, but she found uterine swellings. She told me to expect kittens in "about a month".
Well, here it is, 7 weeks later, and still no kittens. Vera is acting like what we've come to recognize as her usual self. Very vocal, love-y. No real signs of nesting. She's uncomfortable, but not in any pain. She hasn't gained any weight in over a month, staying at 7.2 pounds, but when she adopted us, she was skin and bones, at only about 5.5 pounds. Her tummy is very round and hard. I can't feel what I can be sure is kitten movement, but frequently Vera's midsection will twitch, as if someone is kicking her from the inside. She has also been having a clear, watery discharge for several weeks. She has an appointment Friday to be checked over.
I've never had a cat in my life, so I'm not sure how normal this is. I'm thinking that the vet miscalculated her due date. According to what I've read online, the swellings she felt can be felt at about three weeks? If my Vera was only three weeks along at that appointment, it would make her due any day, I believe.
Forgive my rambling, but I'm starting to get worried. From what I've been able to describe, does it sound like I need to worry? Or, like I suspect, her due date was miscalculated, and she's coming to the end of her pregancy? Any advice would be very much appreciated!
