Hi all,

I have a 2 year old shorthair domestic who was diagnosed with mild heterotrophic cardiomyopathy 4 months ago after throwing a clot to his left from paw. He is on atenolol and Plavix nightly. I am traveling from Connecticut to Alaska for work and am afraid that the trip will be too stressful on his heart. Has anyone ever flown with a cat who has this diagnosis? If so, how did it go? Did your vet recommend anything specific?

Thanks in advance!

Did you ask his cardiologist about it? Has your cat ever been in heart failure (the main symptom would be difficulty breathing).

I, too, would advise discussing this with his cardiologist. Some cats travel well, others not so much. How is your guy with strangers and around odd noises, etc. That might help you determine whether or not to take him along because airports (and going through security) can often be very stressful for everyone involved, but if you've got a laidback cat it might not be a problem.
