I have had cats all my life and NEVER had a tubby and white one. So the one with the most white we'll keep ... Though I might change my mind as I get to know them better
All well still. Mum got up last night for a feed and a toilet tray visit. I had been offering her food and drinks in the nest but I think she needed a stretch and a cuddle. She kept meowing at me and I think she just needed attention. We had a good cuddle then she went back to her babies. This is them waiting
When I went to bed she wanted to sleep with me like usual but had to keep checking her bubs so I moved the nest next to my bed and she settled nicely. Should I change the rug in her nest? It's remarkably clean considering she gave birth on it, but still a bit smelly. I am thinking that if she required a fresh best she'd move the kittens and that for now the smell may be reassuring to them all... What do you think?
hi I was worrying about changing the bedding in the nest but it was a bit stinky. I waited till she got out to go to her litter box and changed it quickly. she had a quick sniff round and settled back down. he seems happy to let me handle the kittens but I'm only doing if it's change time. I'm using bed mats that you can get for pregnant women - they're about £5 for 12. 1/3 the price of puppy mats from pet shop. seem to be working fine so far.
Once the kittens are a couple of weeks old or as soon as their eyes are open and ears folded up you need to start handling them each day. Not for long, put them down as soon as they squeak, and do it in front of mum. The sensitive period starts at 2 weeks and they are at their most receptive about life in general then.
Thanks. They turbe decine week old yrsyetday And there eyes are starting to open. We have been handling them from day one so there's no lack of interaction. We have been doing exactly like you said, down at first squeak and right next to mum who foment seen to mind. They are so cute. My vet mentioned something about worming them at 2 week but that seems a bit early. Do you guys do that?
Also they are in a darkish area now? Which is where they were born but with their eyes opening I feel they should get more light. Should I move them or just wait for mum to find them a new nest?
