Not only that, but the kittens taken in by shelters or rescues are usually picked up and carried around a lot to socialize them and end up expecting to be held and cuddled as much as possible.

I don't think that was the case with her. She was in the county shelter for 5 days. I think the more likely story was that someone abandoned her. Although she is a bit more nervous now that we've let her out into the house for a few hours each night. She's still very sweet and just a great kitty - I think she may not be used to a 2 story house that's larger than 1k sq ft.
