My partner was fostering a pair of older kittens a couple months ago, a tabby boy he named Murek and a tiny black goofball named Greta. Since they were HIGHLY interested whenever he cooked himself meat he got to be vigilant about monitoring the food and cleaning up as quickly and thoroughly as possible. But then one night after a chicken dinner he heard growling, which ONLY ever occurred when one of the kittens was guarding "human" food...and after investigating he discovered, in his words, "a little black sponge goblin". Greta was crouched over the SPONGE he had used to clean the chicken pan. Now he hides everything that ever touches a piece of meat.

Just some food for thought next time you cook! ;)

The kittens have since been adopted :)

When we adopted Olive, she was obsessed with food. She stole chicken breasts, tried to grab uncooked bacon, licked raw eggs about to be cooked and was also a sponge goblin - she would steal a sponge we used exclusively on cat bowls. She’s calmed down since but now the other cat is obsessed with butter and meat juice!

Aw, so sweet! I'm glad they were adopted. :)

Toffee and Fudge used to be semi-feral, so even now they're still obsessed with food and we can't leave food out for them because they'll either inhale it straight away or hide it! They've gotten a lot better now they're almost 5, but we adopted them when they were kittens and they were pretty bad then. Haven't forgotten when Fudge hid a whole chicken bone under the sofa when he was little!
