It's been a rough couple of weeks here. A 17 y/o friend of my daughter's died the first week of August. The word thru the 'teenager's grapevine' was that she'd died of an o.d. Two days ago, a 19 y/o guy was arrested for "drug-induced homicide". Apparently he'd gotten his hands on a form of morphine, had passed it on to a 15 y/o, who then passed it on to my daughter's friend. The poor girl called her Dad at work and asked him to come home and take her to the ER because she was sick. He got there within an hour, and it was too late.
We'd known this young lady since kindergarten; she and my daughter had sleep-overs, were in Girl Scouts together, I was even her volleyball coach.
I feel so very bad for her parents and I feel so very guilty for thinking 'thank heaven it wasn't MY daughter.'
According to that grapevine, everyone knew this girl was at least a recreational drug-user. So why the h*ll didn't any of her so-called friends try to get her help? I've been told (by my daughter) that some kids laugh at how stupid the deceased girl was---not stupid for taking drugs in the first place, being stupid enough to die!
I know there's nothing anyone can do, I just needed to talk about this.
