Howdy ho Cat Lovers,

Did you know we are leading a project called: The 99 Lives Cat Genome Sequencing Project!!!  We are trying to organize the whole genome sequencing of 99 or more cats and put the information into a public database!  This data will then help the health care of all cats around the world!  ANY cat can participate - we just need to raise about $8,00 per cat!!  That is a bargain when we considered that the first  human genome sequencing project cost millions!  We have ways of helping with matching funds too.  Find a cat to participate and let's do a fund raiser for that cat!  How about some type of competition - vote for your prettiest, funniest, most clever cat and let's raise some funds for it!  Any cat  - any where in the world!!

I remember watching a special on Nat Geo Wild where they got genetic samples from kitties all over the world.  They were not doing anything as in depth as this, they were looking for the kitty population with the most genetic diversity.  Their theory being that the kitty population with the most diversity was the likely place where kitties were first domesticated.

They found a group of kitties in a remote area of Egypt that had the most diversity.  They were larger than the average domestic cat, they said that animals tend to get smaller when they are domesticated.  They couldn't handle the cats but they would take bits of food off of a stick.  They put a brush on the end of a stick and put the food on the brush to get the DNA samples.

Of course a network and an organization like National Geographic has deep pockets.
