I need help. I have had cats for years so this is new to me...my 7 yr. old is chewing/eating plastic that I have around a new chair to keep a 2 yr old from scratching...what is causing her to do this?

My old cat used to like to lick plastic, she liked the taste. My other cat would chew plastic, I think he liked the texture. I would stop them though as plastic can have toxins.

First of all, I'd suggest you swap out the plastic for tinfoil - your girl is far less likely to chew on that as it will taste and feel foul if she tries it. Chewing plastic is NOT a good thing for her to be doing, and it's important that you stop this behaviour before it causes a physical problem.

Has your girl always liked chewing things, or is this a new behaviour? If she's always liked chewing things, then pica is a possibility. This article explains a little more about it :-[article="22418"][/article] These threads might also be of interest to you:-[thread="247803"][/thread][thread="303130"][/thread]
