Hi, so my 7 month old kitten started eating cat food made for 1 yr old cats, mainly because I wasn't the one to buy the food and the person who did didn't know what to buy, is this okay??
It is probably ok...they say kittens can state eating adult food at around 8 months, but it really depends on what kind of kitten it is (Maine Coon vs just "plain old cat
" since some of the larger breeds mature at a slower rate.
What is it you are feeding, as certain foods are good for "all stages", so would certainly be ok. (I'm guessing whatever you are feeding specifically says ages 1 - 7 years?) Just be sure you feed a little more since your furbaby is still growing so will need more that the adult cat.
(Kitten food has more protein and fat than adult food, for one thing, that's why it's different)
It's most likely okay but some breeds need to be on specific diets until 12 months of age. If you're questioning it, a quick call to your vet should give you some answers. One of my cats went on adult food at 6 months of age but I did check with my vet first. She did just fine! I'd make sure that the cat was getting plenty to eat with the adult food as it tends to have fewer calories that the kitten food.
Her name is River and she has really vibrant green/yellowish eyes. I'm not positive what kind of cat she is, the woman I got her from said she was part Siamese and part barn cat but she doesn't seem like it.
