HELP, any advice on what to do????
We have taken on surrogate motherhood of 4 kittens approximately 4-5 weeks old. Have been bottle feeding for 2 weeks now, they are growing and strong, and seem to be adapting well. TODAY one of them SWALLOWED the top half of the nipple from the bottle while feeding. We did not realize they have been chewing on them and found three more nipples that were almost in the same shape. NOW kitty, her name is OPAL does not seem to be in any distress, she is playing and even drank 25 ml from the bottle after the incident. Side note....they all seem to be a bit constipated when pooping. THANKS.

If they don't pass the nipple or seem constipated for more than a day or two, you need to take them to the vet. If they stop eating/drinking, seem lethargic, or are crying when using the litter box, take them to the ER vet. I had this happen to a kitten last summer and he passed it fine so it's possible that will happen, but you must keep a very close eye on him. It sounds like they are ready for weaning!

The kitten should pass the nipple piece.

Stop bottle feeding now and begin introducing wet food mixed with formula into a slurry and presented on a flat plate. They are ready to learn to eat when they begin chewing the nipples!

Also, leave dry kitten chow down 24/7. They will enjoy crunching it while teething.
