I just adopted a 5 month old kitten for my girlfriend from the local humane society. When I got her she had just been spayed 2 days prior. She also had a spot on the back of her neck that was bald, and scabby. when I asked about the spot the lady at the humane society said she was very concerned, it looked like someone had put her paper collar on too tight, and she removed it. I brought the kitten home last Saturday, and we noticed her coughing that night. I brought her to the vet first thing Monday morning and the vet said she had an upper respiratory infection, and that she was running a fever. He also rubbed her throat and she started coughing. so the vet said there was a very slim chance she could have bordetella, but it was very very rare in cats. Anyhow he gave us Clavamox and said it should make her better. Well it's been almost 5 days now, and in my opinion she doesn't seem much better. The cough kinda seems worse, and I would compare the way she sounds to a little kid when they are very congested. Her cough is kinda dry almost hairballish. And she does this thing sometimes where it looks almost as if she has dry heaves, but her mouth doesn't open and she doesn't make any sounds. I also noticed today that her nose sounds very mucousy. However there is no mucous coming out. Her eyes are clear and nothing is coming out of her nose. she doesn't have any adverse reactions to the antibiotics that I have noticed. Is this normal? My girlfriend seems to think she's just fine, But I really think it would suck if the Christmas present I bought her just up and died.
