I am needing all the help I can get. I’m very young, already in a lot of medical debt from my brain surgeries and my cat’s PU surgery. I’m worried sick I’m going to lose my closest friend in the whole world, I’ve only had a year and a half to spend with him. I love this cat as much as a human can love another creature.
His name is boots, he’s around 14 pounds. No other health issues. We don’t know his age but he doesn’t seem to be old to me at all.
He blocked one time and the vet did a PU surgery because we didn’t have money to ever unblock again. This was the biggest expense I’ve ever paid for.

his surgery went pretty well. He has been just fine ever sense, back to his old sassy silly goofy cute self.
my mom calls me today and said he’s constantly going to the litter box. He’s producing urine every time he goes but it’s small amounts.
he’s also licking the surgical site a lot. He’s still eating and drinking and very playful, but I can tell as he’s trying to pee he seems stressed.
He’s still napping, doing his normal routine but every so often he will sit in the litter box and make many trips back to back and then takes a break.
This has been happening since about 3 pm today, it’s now 7. There has probably been a 2 hour period during this time where he wasn’t doing this.

I called the hospital he had his surgery at and they want us to take him in for a 200 dollar exam, I don’t even have 10 bucks to my name right now AND I’m behind on my maxed out care credit bills
The agreement in my family was if he had more complications we would put him down. But this doesn’t seem like a situation in which putting him down makes sense. I plan to go get my first credit card tomorrow and just biting down. I’ll do anything to keep him well, if he has to do a revision surgery I’m going to take him home, save up and work 2 jobs and get him into a specialist to do the revision. That’s worst case scenario.

the vet said before the surgery we needed the wet rx food, but after the surgery they just would not give it us. Even the secretary thought it was odd. I guess they thought we didnt need it, but I’m going to ask about it tomorrow when I takehim.

here’s my questions: what else should I ask the vet and surgeon that performed it? Are there any known complications with this surgery that sound similar to his symptoms? What are the chances of this being a reblock versus scar tissue or vs a uti?
Are there any signs we should look for that indicates this as an emergency?

I am very young and doing this all by myself. I had to finance around 5 grand to do the PU surgery and am working part time while I’m in college so I’m behind onpayments.
I’m really scared I’ll be paying on a dead cat, my bestest friend in the whole world. This cat saved my life and now I’m going to save his, or at least go broke trying. I plan to sell my car and bike to work to cover the cost if it comes down to it.
im praying to godfor a miracle, my poor boy.

I had a male black cat, maybe 3 years old, I'm not sure exactly, he was a feral I took in. Anyways, he was doing the same thing in the litter box. I didn't have money for a vet so i did some research and ended up putting apple cider vinegar in his water. But I mean like a few drops with an eye dropper. And they can usually tell when u put something in their water so sometimes i would put a little bit of chicken broth in a bowl with his water and the apple cider vinegar and he always seemed to like that. After a little over a week he was showing signs of improvement. I couldn't believe it actually worked. I pray your kitty gets better. I'm not positive this will help your kitty, I just wanted to share my story with you in case it might help in some way. Best of luck

I am very sorry that you are facing this urgent situation with Boots and I do understand what you are saying about having extreme financial constraints. We can’t tell you, however that this is a minor episode which will pass. It is possible that there is some kind of an infection and it is possible for another blockage to occur after PU surgery. This may be something that can be more easily treated than what you think, but you have no way of knowing what is going on unless the doctor looks at him.

We can’t tell you the chances of this being an infection versus a blockage, but there can be complications with any surgery. Any cat who repeatedly goes to a litter box and produces small quantities of urine could be facing a medical emergency.

given that Boots has had PU surgery, this is certainly beyond any type of home remedy, and I don’t recommend that you try anything on your own which you think might solve this because he needs medical attention.

Thank you.
I’m going to get him looked at tomorrow when I wake up

he’s not doing it now, but I doubt it’s better just because he’s stopped going.
I’m going to bite the bullet and get him seen asap, since he’s my child and I am sure if he passed away I’d literally be in my 60’s with a shrine in my house with hispicture and toys on it.
It’s crazy how much love we can have for one little creature. Thanks again

I agree that it’s odd that they didn’t give you the prescription food. My angel boy had a blockage and he had to have surgery to get it unblocked. he was on that prescription food for the rest of his life. I suppose every case is different but it does seem weird.

when you take him to the surgeon, ask them about the food.

Hi. Cats can and do block after a PU surgery. I don’t know why they would have done one right away. It is usually a last resort procedure.

Do you know why he was blocked?

It is vital he be on a prescription canned diet. Who told you he didn’t need it?

You have to try your best to get him into a vet to see if he has reblocked or if he is suffering from cystitis. When there have them show you how to check his bladder so you will know if he blocks again.
