i agree...building one is definitely labour intensive. And you have to be careful b/c my cat tree is heavy and yet my fat cat has made it rock. So if you want a big one you have to make sure it's got a big enough base and is "bottom heavy" so it's not pulled over. That thing get kitten launches...
