A couple of months ago, we agreed to take in a 2.5yo male cat who had
been abandoned. While this cat seems to like it here, we are finding
that his presence has quite upset the household balance (we have 2 other
adult cats). The worst of it is the spraying.
The knucklehead who abandoned this...
61 kitties at the clinic today. 2 had already been fixed/eartipped so they got vaccinated. But that means another 59 not contributing to kitten season Most were female. And, as a bonus, we finished up early enough that I might be able to get in my garden after all - woohoo!
I've put off posting this for a couple of weeks because it is depressing, but the basic fact is that several of the neighbors are adamant that the feral colony go, so we must relocate them. I understand their reasons but it does not make it any easier.
There's about 15 cats in the colony. If...
A small envelope in the mail for me today. I open it up and there's a $10 bill inside The card reads:
"This is a random act of kindness. I hope that this money is a blessing to you and that you pass on the kindness in any way that you can."
Just a little heart instead of a signature...
Those popups from lowermybills.com are extremely annoying.
Let me state that I understand the need for advertising to pay for the site and have no issue of any kind with that. Since I would prefer not to be inundated with advertising, I paid for a year's subscription and enabled the "No...
According to another post, it is International Women's Day in some parts of the world. That reminded me of an email a friend sent me several weeks ago and I think a number of the ladies here will appreciate the sentiment

Found this on another site that I read. Hopefully I am not out of line posting it
Cat Survives 10-Mile Trip Atop Car http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...at_s_road_trip
INKOM, Idaho - Torri Hutchinson's cat might just have one less life to live. Hutchison was driving along Interstate 15...
I sprained a wrist last week and have been doing various things to treat it, including putting "Icy Hot" or "Traumeel" on it while wearing a brace. 2 of our cats have reacted rather oddly to these ointments, scratching at my brace/arm and even once trying to bite my arm. A handkerchief with...
Don't Panic!
The movie comes out April 29th here in the States. I read the book eons ago (i.e., college) and in watching the trailer, realized I probably didn't remember a bunch of stuff. Time to reread Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
I gave the cats a few minutes on the deck the other morning. Of course, Oppenheimer decides to go down into the yard and when I went in to fetch some shoes, Serafina got into some serious mischief
It's a good 15 foot drop from where she was to the yard below. Would she back up far enough...
I help with managing a feral colony that developed in our neighborhood. We've successfully TNR'd all but maybe 4 (and we're hoping to catch those soon) but there are currently about 20 cats in the colony. Most of them hang out in the area between my cul-de-sac and the neighborhood behind us...
Our 13yo kitty Oppenheimer has regained only a little of the weight that he lost last summer after a bout of pancreatitis. He had dropped to about 5 lbs and now is up to 6.5 or so. His appetite is good and he sees his vet regularly but he seems to be stuck at 6.5 lbs. He still has occassional...
In the Caring for Ferals and Strays forum, a new poster added to the "The things I do for my ferals" thread but it should be its own thread where it can get proper notice. Would someone please split the new post (#10) off? The new user's forum name is Feralinheritor.
Thanks!
Marcia, the neighbor that feeds most of our colony, had asked me if I could have 2 more (AlleyCat Allies) shelters made (a previous thread about 2 shelters made for me by my nephew was lost in the Great Crash). I finally got around to it on the 18th, with my eldest brother helping me get and...
We don't allow our cats on the tables or counters. Serafina has been with us only 4 months and has repeatedly ignored this rule. Here's her latest infraction
In case it's not clear, that's her in a box to the left of the giant Pointsetta. It did not faze her in the least when my husband...
I still have a lot to learn about caring for "my" ferals and I have 2 questions about behavior.
First, it was very cold here (northern Virginia, USA) last night. I checked around 715am and it was 10 F and -9 with the wind chill. I noticed that Veronica was in what I think is her usual...
FYI: Under the SOS forum stickies, the link for no-kill shelters, http://www.saveourstrays.com/no-kill.htm, is dead (404 error).
Also, tom_cat posted a query under Ask Animal Control. Perhaps it should be moved down with the other threads? It may get more traffic/responses there....
thanks!
I wasn't planning on becoming "one of those crazy cat ladies" just yet but here I am, buying stuff for the ferals who have claimed my yard as home, worrying about them, feeding them, etc. (and neutering, of course).
Today I noticed Veronica and Buster were sleeping in the misty rain, not in the...
