of course it is ideal to find homes for a feral cat to be socialized, but those are few and far between. given what the alternative to tnr is for these cats - certain death - tnr is without a doubt the ideal answer.
to me this really sums up why tnr is so important -
"Well-intentioned people...
good advice from all of the previous posts, the only thing i would add is if you do put any posters up make sure to get a throw away cell to use for a contact number.
Bastfriend, i really hope that there is a happy ending for Hercules, i know how much you care about him.
part of why i am going to do this is that those cages are pretty cheap - $75 at petco w/ free shipping right now. i figure that i could purchase a backup cage to leave as is in case i end up socializing another cat. i also have spoken to the mechanics that do service on my suv to ask them if...
here is what i do in addition to altering with any feral that i have trapped; dewormer, capstar and a dose of revolution. normally testing for FIV/FeLV is not done, but if your budget allows it is a good idea. if she does come back as FIV+ you will know to keep your eyes out for any potential...
i don't have one of the recovery cages myself, but i think that you are correct that the only advantage to the tray is how quick and easy cleaning it is. also, certainly more comfortable for the cat than the wire is.
one other possibility in place of a "recovery cage" is something that i am...
i bought my traps, as well as other accessories here - http://www.animal-traps.com/cat-recovery-cage-tc.html. link takes you directly to the recovery cage page.
good pricing on the tru-catch traps and i liked the fact that it is an independent/small business as opposed to a "mega-mart" type. as...
i have noticed that too Ritz with one exception. mommie was by far the most feral of the ones i have tnr'd and she went absolutely nuts in the trap. the trap was bouncing around so much that it almost slid right back out of the truck. however, in addition to her there were her five kittens that...
perhaps you are correct that the acepromazine has less taste or has a less offensive taste :dk: i believe that your vet can order the gel or chews - i might be mistaken though.
i have had no problem getting any of the ferals to take oral meds if i cut the pill up and wrap the pieces in some...
i think you have it harder with Patches than i do with pretty girl. back in september when i had to get her in for a checkup as well as her rabies vaccine she did eat the sedative when it was mixed in her food without any problem.
do you remember what the vet gave you back then? with pretty...
Ritz gives some excellent advice about securing the doors. the brand of trap that i use is a tru-catch and the model i bought comes with a small carabiner to secure the guillotine style door. i also use one on the trap door as well, just to be extra safe.
thank you for helping these cats out...
don't get me wrong, a fox could kill and eat a cat - desperate times and all that - but it is not too large of a worry. once the weather is warmer there will/should be ample food that makes up the fox's normal diet, so soon enough it will be almost no worry.
i wholeheartedly agree that ads are crucial for many sites (like this one), so disabling adblock plus is a must on those sites.
part of the beauty of the add-ons i always recommend is how simple it is to allow what you want where you want it. one click and adblock plus allows ads on a specific...
i have the exact same worries about pretty girl Bastfriend.
she got a roundworm infestation recently and i wasted about $30 worth of drontal before i had the vet give me a dose of profender. she won't eat a pill pocket even if it is empty so i made my own by using chopped grilled salmon. that...
very nice video, thanks for sharing!
you can tell that you have been caring for them since they were young as it seems like they are rather comfortable with you - no "mad dash" out of and away from the trap.
