    Leash Training?

I started my cat on leash training when she was 6 weeks old. I found a tiny ferret harness and leash and just let her run about on it. I also worked on her coming when she is called because cats don't tend to heel like dogs. I started with just letting her wear and get used to the harness. I...

    Energizer Kitten

I would never disguise him. I don't want him sleepy or off. I have simply been told that he needs to be able to be held at adoptions, which no one but me can do. And he does have playmates, I have 2 cats of my own that love to run about with him, plus any fosters coming through. I have been told...

    Energizer Kitten

I have not! I will try that this weekend, hopefully it will help! He is adorable and plenty of fun! The only thing left is for him to learn how to hit the brakes and learn his turn radius...still skidding into walls sometimes.

    Energizer Kitten

I have a little boy about 11 weeks old now. He's very sweet, but has more energy than I have ever seen in a kitten in 3 years of fostering. He seems to have so much even he doesn't know what to do with it all. I have never seen him lay down for more than a minute straight. When he snuggles, he...

Eeep! Itties with the dreaded ringworm

We have only tile/wood and there is both a bleach and a de-fungal foot bath and de-fungal sprays both just inside and just outside the door :) So far the kittens and momma appear to be gaining weight well.

Comment by 'claraadele' in article 'The Deaf Cat'

I adopted out a deaf kitten last year, sweetest little thing named Beethoven (but of course). He responded very well to vibrations and would come running whenever he felt my foot stomp on the ground (3x everytime). His new owners say he still responds to that same code!

    Flat-chested Kitten Syndrome

Viola has been seen by the vet! Her syndrome is very extreme, but so far everything looks good. Her lungs are not being crushed or improperly formed and her heart is protected by the part of the ribs that is normal. We'll keep checking her, but it looks like she will have a pretty good lifespan...

How old does a kitten have to be to leave its mother?

I agree with StefanZ. Fostering is a great way to get kittens, but you're also helping out kitties in need. The hardest thing about fostering is letting them go- but I know it always helps me if I know exactly where the kitty is going and who they are going with, then I know they are getting the...

Eeep! Itties with the dreaded ringworm

We recently acquired a stray momma kitty with 5 gorgeous kittens...within 15 minutes of getting them, I noticed some odd markings on the babies' skin...took them under the black light and they glowed bright, neon, apple green- ringworm! Lucky we noticed it so soon...we were able to quarantine...

    Kittens not growing

Have you tried giving them some plain, cooked chicken? I always found my little ones went nuts for a plate of cooked chicken (cut into itty bitty pieces, of course).

    Flat-chested Kitten Syndrome

Viola is now with another foster. She is accompanying little Violet, her foster sister who is having trouble gaining weight. Luckily, this foster knows a vet, took one look at her chest and said she would bring Viola to the vet to be looked over. My parents have said that if the vet says she is...

    Flat-chested Kitten Syndrome

Sometimes being in a rescue is very hard. I've been told we cannot afford to spend the money just to find out something we cannot fix. And I cannot afford to bring her to the vet myself, being a broke college student. I suppose I am just going to have sit and watch and hope.

Concerned about cat pregnant with only one kitten...

She is a pretty calico!!! Hopefully mom takes good care of her!

    Flat-chested Kitten Syndrome

We're hopefully going to get an appointment with our vet on Thursday. But seeing the difference between her and my previous boy....her future is pretty shaky. I don't think the rescue could afford the surgery and the way I feel it...I think if her ribcage tried to fix itself, it would expand...

Ningas Pregnant, help and info needed

I'm saying four- our little Rae was HUGE and she had four (got her from the shelter already pregnant- she's getting fixed ASAP). Very excited to watch them grow .

Little Sky and her 2 kittens

The other thing is Kitten Fading Syndrome- it's where they just weren't born with what it takes to survive- but their instincts tell them to push themselves to act normal. My little Hermes left us at 8 weeks...he was unusually tiny and thin, like Cloud. Extremely small compared to his siblings...

Little Sky and her 2 kittens

Was Sky vaccinated? During the pregnancy or soon after with a live vaccine? We had the same thing happen...six totally healthy kittens. Momma had been vaccinated with a live vaccine while she was pregnant at the shelter. Kittens seemed perfectly healthy...until they started the weaning process...

    Flat-chested Kitten Syndrome

Yeah...it's like someone pushed the back half of her sternum up to her spine. Keeping an eye out for gasping...we only noticed gasping when we turned her on her back.

    Flat-chested Kitten Syndrome

I've already emailed the rescue person I work with. I told her everything I can feel. We noticed it when a vet tech was giving her an ultranasal vaccine- turned her on her back to put the drops in her nose and eyes and she suddenly started breathing extremely oddly. The vet tech is legally not...
