Cat intros...should I keep separating when I hear growling?

4 MONTH UPDATE: Frienemies! Most of the time they get along. They are always in the same area together; if Skye is napping in the dining room, Max is too. If one is on the cat tree, the other is sleeping on the base of it. They eat together, share boxes, watch birds together. But they have...

Cat intros...should I keep separating when I hear growling?

I should also add that It was Skye's fur that I found all over the floor the day they must have gotten in a brawl, unless it's possible to lose a handful of fur playing, which I highly doubt, but Skye is a long haired ragdoll.

Cat intros...should I keep separating when I hear growling?

Photos of their typical positions since the dust ups. Max on bed, Skye in the hall at the door (he always lays here, even before Max).

Cat intros...should I keep separating when I hear growling?

Yes, Skye and Max both had access to the entire house when hubby moved back to master. I don't think there was a lot of sleeping going on for either of them that week. There was a lot of roaming around. There were only the 2 (recent) incidents (there were a couple incidents in there early...

    Timed Feeding...confused!

I feed ours around 7:30 am and again around 6 pm. Right before I go to bed, they each get a small bowl of hard food to nibble on overnight (around 10-11 pm) Unfortunately, I don't think there's much you can do about an early riser except completely ignore them. Some cats rise at the crack of...

Cat intros...should I keep separating when I hear growling?

When hubby and Max moved back into the master, Skye and Max were roaming around mostly. Skye would sometimes sleep by the door once Max went out almost trying to block him from coming back in. Max would sneak up on the bed (but he's still getting used to sleeping with the dogs- a whole 'nother...

Cat intros...should I keep separating when I hear growling?

Calico- you always make me feel better, thank you. These "dust ups" as you call them are always over territory. They just seem to take it to a physical level instead of just stare downs. We live in a suburban neighborhood of homes on big lots. There is only one cat that is an outside cat...

Cat intros...should I keep separating when I hear growling?

Step back again. A big step back. Things had been progressing, and we were seeing less chasing, stalking, etc. They were choosing to hang out together. They were even, what I thought was, play wrestling on occasion (one would walk up to the other and they would kind of bite each other's...

Cat intros...should I keep separating when I hear growling?

Step back update: they've regressed a bit this week with some chases and tumbles. No injuries or fur flying, and they break up on their own, and both seem fine after, but concerning. Unfortunately these are happening when we are not in the room so we don't know what's precipitating the issue...

    Humping!?

Our new cat (neutered 3 months ago), Max, has been with us for a little over 2 months. He was dumped at a shelter with his girlfriend and their 3 kittens, all stuffed in a cat carrier. History is unknown. The Vet guesses he's about 3-4 years old. I think maybe a bit younger, based on how...

Cat intros...should I keep separating when I hear growling?

Update: It has been 8 weeks and a few days since we adopted Max, and I think we have reached a point of acceptance.  Ever since Max broke out of Alcatraz almost 2 weeks ago, they have been out together during the day.  They are still working out who's boss....but Max is usually submitting when...

    Batmonkey's first dog

Whenever a cat starts peeing outside the box, when usually he doesn't, especially when accompanied by yowling while peeing (even if he is typically vocal, does he usually yowl when he pees?), should be looked at medically first to rule out infection.

    Batmonkey's first dog

The fact that he's "wailing" before he pees on the rug would have me straight to the vet. Like ASAP.

    Cat Gate

I can confirm they can squeeze through. I have the extra tall version and the cat I was trying to keep separated while we were on vacay went right through!

Cat intros...should I keep separating when I hear growling?

And at nap time.....funny story. The dog crate on the left is Skye's bed. He kicked the dog out, who now sleeps in the bed with me, and sleeps in it every single night and at nap time. I just placed the cat carrier on top of it to vacuum, and Max tried to climb in there while Skye was...

Cat intros...should I keep separating when I hear growling?

Here is the scene I just walked in to. I feel they are choosing to hang out together now. We are still seeing some squabbles though, but more of this than that.
