What would cause a cat to act ill and then go back to normal once he left a certain area?

I'm not sure I made the right decision. Just woke up from a dream where I found the cat in my old house and picked him up, hugging him tight while balling my eyes out. All I could say is I thought you were gone.

What would cause a cat to act ill and then go back to normal once he left a certain area?

Long story short I just gave my cat up for adoption. He was being cared for by a family member because I was unable to due to my living arrangements. Last august he got bitten up badly by fleas which wasn't 100% percent their fault but it almost killed him. He did well until earlier this year...

All was well until this morning when I found a monstrously huge turd in his litter pan. Was expecting to find blood near by. He's 8 years old and only likes chicken pate but my mother who is caring for him buys him whatever.

Ah boy this is embarrassing, apparently my mom's scale isn't very consistent with low weight. I weighed him holding him this time and he's 13.2 lbs.

Spending quality time with my boy. The scale wouldn't even register him today which means he's less than 11 pounds.

Cat has lost a little bit of weight, should I be worried?

Just did a quick search and found out Chemo pills for dogs run $1k for a 30 day supply, there's no way I can afford cancer treatment for the cat. Even if I did he would waste away before there was any noticeable effect with the rate at which he's dropping weight. He's almost down to 10 lbs as it...
