Kitten at death's door from some infection/ ongoing issues and updates

When I first rescued my kitten, he was very sick, and he got antibiotics, but I think what was also absolutely necessary for him, was that we were able to give him subQ fluids at home 3x per day for about 2 weeks. Perhaps that is something you can discuss with your vet, if you are able to...

Thank you @KSRS! I'm so glad you found a resolution for your cat! That gives me hope!

Megacolon in cats - Need information

@KSRS -- Did the drops work (or if not, did you find a plan that did work)? My 7-month old kitten Lucky (who was a very sick rescue and almost died a few months ago, and has had health problems ever since), now has constipation and may be on his way to developing megacolon. We have just...

New Kitten not settling in-- Need advice!

Thank you @crystal dawn and @Mamanyt1953! Its a relief to know it usually takes a few weeks to settle in. He threw up again this morning right after breakfast-- seems to be making a habit of it. I am not sure how worried we should be about that. Any advice about limiting that would be so...

New Kitten not settling in-- Need advice!

Hi everyone, Earlier this year, I rescued a mother cat and her 5 kittens. Since the very beginning the plan was for my son's chosen kitten, Jasper, to move to his father's apartment once the kitten was old enough (where my son spends more of his time). Since then, I gave away 3 kittens, but...

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

Lucky's fecal was normal! He is happy and enjoying life with the other cats now!

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

Thanks @IndyJones! I sent photos and videos to the Vet, and they also think it is just a normal kitten belly -- I'm so relieved, and glad to hear you think the same thing. Tomorrow we can send a new fecal sample to test at the vet, and if Lucky is all clear, he is free to be with our other cats!

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

Hi @shadowsrescue! Thank you for checking in! Lucky is all better now!! He just completed his antibiotics, and is still on prescribed probiotics. He has lots of energy, a good appetite, has normal, firm poop, and has been steadily gaining weight. He has gained about 3/4 pound since his...

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

Also, I forgot to mention, @kittychick had suggested a scale, so I bought a little kitchen scale (up to 5lb), and started weighing him yesterday afternoon. He has steadily gotten heavier since then -- gaining almost 1oz in ~12 hours!

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

Thanks so much @shadowsrescue and @John Perram for your advice about coccidiosis. Today, Lucky seems much better. Last night he made a big mushy poop -- but no longer the watery diarrhea consistency it had been for the previous 3-4 days. He also has his appetite back and is eating as much as...

    Post your sleeping beauties!!!

Our fur-baby rescue Jasper (now 14 weeks old; we rescued him with his mama cat and 4 siblings when the kittens were 3.5 weeks old) likes to sleep among my 5-year old's stuffie collection.

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

I just heard back from the vet, and they think the photo is diarrhea. Which to me is a good sign, since he is improving in other ways, but at least is not regressing to vomiting again. Now we are hoping the diarrhea will also resolve soon.

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

I forgot to add that this morning, after I saw him sitting fully upright, I gave him some food and he ate on his own again, probably about 5-8ml. I tried to give him a little more by syringe, but he seemed not to want it so I stopped and left it at that -- particularly since he had eaten the...

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

Thanks @fionasmom and @IndyJones for the link and advice on subcutaneous fluid administration. We have been doing okay with giving them to him so far, and Lucky seems to be staying hydrated (passing the "tent test"). Though he is getting wigglier each time, so the info in the link will be very...

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

Thanks @shadowsrescue & @IndyJones . I will definitely look up bone broth and baby food, and I watched some videos on syringe feeding to make sure I am doing it properly. As for Lucky, the plan we came to with the vet was to give him the Albon and Clavimox antibiotics plus at-home...

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

Thanks you @kittychick , @IndyJones and @shadowsrescue for your responses. Lucky is with the vet again, and they have given several options. 1 is to treat for GI pathogens including coccidia which he may have but were not tested for. Albon and Clavimox. 2 is to do IV fluids, which can come...

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

Ok, I found this info on the web about coccidia, so maybe what Lucky has is one of the species that infect other animals but not cats (hopefully this is reliable information, but it does answer my question is so): Coccidia are microscopic protozoan parasites that infest and damage the cells...

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

Thank you @fionasmom! Yes, we are definitely holding off on the vaccine until Lucky improves. Update: Last night, Lucky had a mushier stool, so now I am worried that he is starting to have diarrhea. His appetite is very small, though he still seems alert and likes to wander around, and...

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

Thank you @fionasmom and @kittychick! I did take him to the vet today (he is literally still there getting some treatments), and here are the results: - He is negative for parvovirus, has normal range blood glucose levels, but is slightly anemic. Since he is not having diarrhea and has passed...

Rescued feral kitten keeps throwing up

I realized my post is missing a few details. After he threw up the first time, I thought perhaps he ate the litter, and switched him to Feline Pine pellet litter immediately. I am unsure if the Feline Pine clumping litter can cause an obstruction. Also, at that time, I began leaving dry cat...
