Hello, I am in dire need of advice I'm moving into a apartment next month but they only allow two pets I have 3 cats. They wanted me to send them in a picture of the two cats that I put on the lease my question is I want to bring my other baby but I don't want to get enticed or in trouble but I just can't abandon him. What should I do? Thanks(:

I don't think there's any magic answer to this. Do you know if they will be popping by a lot? Ideally you could find a place that would allow all three, obviously. People do try to get away with it, but it's stressful.

I would bring all three. Tne most tehy can do is kick you out. Have a friend call them and see if they would take a high deposit, etc, to allow three. There is no way in teh world I would give one of mine up. but i know how hard it is to find a place that accepts them. I guess that is why we always bought. You can always rent out part of a house to help make teh payments. I wish you all the luck!

I would see if I had a relative who could house one, but in the absence of that I would take them all. If even one of them is like my cat, a hider, no one would ever know.

I agree with di and bob di and bob on this one, about having someone pose as being interested in one of the apartments and asking about paying a larger deposit fee to have 3 cats. Just so you know what might be possible if they happen to find out about your third cat.

I hope they will allow 3 cats for a larger deposit!! But, I also like the idea of even a rental house with roommates, if need be. If you choose to keep all 3 cats with you, you might want to start looking for rental housing options, just so you have a back up plan. Good luck!

That is really true! Anybody that stops by here would never know we had cats, they hide immediately. If we have company for two days I have to put water and food in my bedroom. We don't see them until the company is gone!

I am curious why you rented an apartment that would only allow two cats. That just seems to me to be setting yourself up for stress and for potentially losing one of your cats or having to unexpectedly move. If they want pictures I’d the cats it is so that they can identify cats that belong and any that don’t. At the very least I would start planning for who could take one of your cats if you are forced into it.

I have 3 cats that the leasing office doesn't know about or doesn't care. I even have my blinds wide open because my porch faces a huge yard,no walkways. My apartment is covered with cat stuff. Even if the leasing office stops by which they never had in 8 yrs, all my cats hide

I know a lot of people who have hidden cats from the landlord. It's not great, but as long as the cats are indoors and you don't let them wreck anything I don't think it's harmful either. If you have 2 that look somewhat alike, even better, lol.

Ooo story-time:
My first apartment in college, I was allowed 1 pet. I had 7 cats, a dog for 3 months, hamsters, guinea pigs, lovebirds, rats and 3 Ball Pythons. When it was inspection day I boxed everyone up like they were going to the vet and we went for a drive for a few hours. My cats all loved being in their carriers so that helps for starters. The lovebirds I didn't have long as they were just too much. But I would set the snake tank up like where a coffee table would be and drape a table cloth over it with books and candles on top to look un-suspicious. I lived there for 4.5 years and they had no idea. I also lived 3 doors down from the leasing office.

I don't recommend all this because it was kind of a pain in the ass. But I am sure you can sneak a 3rd in there. IF they ever find out sometime down the line, you could act like you just recently got it and play dumb. See what they saw and then offer to pay a little extra each month. I would say go for it though lol.

In my old flat the landlord said pets were not allowed.
I brought my cats.

I suggest that you bring them all. Suggestion by di and bob di and bob is good. Try to find out what could be the additional fees or possible scenario if pets exceed from limit. Try to also find other apartments in the meantime.

Goodluck. I hope everything turns out fine.

The cats I have were rescues from my apartment complex so I would tell them I saved the leasing office from having complaints about stray cats so I should be able to keep them.

I hid two cats in my apartment in college that didn't allow any for 2 years. Its doable :)
Mine allowed pets but you had to pay the deposit. I just skipped the deposit and didn't mention the cat at all. I had two cats at one point as well. One problem was that one of them liked to sleep on the window sill which faced the main thru-road. Still, management never said a word.

Worst case for me was that I would have had to come up with a pet deposit. In the case of the OP, she/he may have to get rid of one of the cats if they say anything. That's a bigger risk.

I live in a college town. Many students think the landlord won’t find out- but pest control, appliance repair people, all enter apartments. I wouldn’t take that chance. Not only would any deposits be forfeited, the renter can be liable for court costs and made to move without much notice.

I work in a large production bakery for a very busy family owned grocery store, chocolate chip cookies work like a charm everywhere, make a friend of the leaseing office by bringing a platter of cookies when you move in, " for being so helpful during my stressful move" guaranteed they will remember the cookies and leave you alone.

I would be upfront and honest, and say you have three cats but are very willing to pay more (a penalty, a fee, an extra deposit) for the third cat and offer to sign a pet lease agreement limiting it to three. (You and the landlord can make a new agreement, one you both sign.) Provide photos of your three cats. Provide good references from past rentals at which you had three pets; have past landlord(s) call and make a good reference(s) for you. Do all you can to assure them that, in your case, three cats can equal the wear and tear of two cats. Honesty is the best policy but I agree with susanm9006 susanm9006 , you've gotten yourself into a bind by taking an apt that prefers to permit only two pets.

It's really hard.. like you don't understand I have try'ed to find a aparment that would allow 3 and it is impossible I only have a certain amount of time to get out of my house or I'm gonna be homeless. So I had no choice.
