My kitty Sullivan LOVES being on the table, this doesn't bother me at all. Not even a little bit. When it's meal time we put him on our bedroom and shut the door and then we're done we let him out.

I was told last night that I'm weird and it's not normal...

He's a cat.. cats get on things.
Seriously, I can't be the only one??

LOL, it's totally normal, at least in THIS house. Apparently in a previous lifetime my partner lived in a house where cats weren't allowed up, but here, since The Big Poppy-cat runs this house he's allowed where ever his heart desires ;)

Oh, and your baby is gorgeous!!

Do I “let” them get on the table?

Okay. I’ll be serious, now. (“Let” them... :flail:)

So. Anyway. They all get on the dining room table whenever they want, but we never use that table. They aren’t supposed to get on the kitchen table, but, of course, they do when we’re not in the room. It doesn’t bother me, but I prefer they not do it.

(Me, from the living room: “I hear you. You’re on the table, aren’t you. I’m coming in.” Any one of the cats: “No, Mom. We would never do that. You don’t want us to.” Thunk. Sound of cat jumping from the table to the floor.)

Why do I not want them on the table? All three shed like Charles Schulz’s Pigpen character plus they have poor impulse control. (“Whatcha eatin’, Mom? Huh? Huh? Looks good. I’ll have a bite...and sit in the middle of your plate while I’m doing it.”) :)

My cats get up on EVERYTHING. Like you, when I'm ready to eat, I shut them in the bedroom.

Hmm, cats at the table? Never heard of that. :rolleyes2: :D

We try to keep them off of the kitchen counters, but they often sleep on the dining room table since we don’t use it much. If we have company for dinner, we just wipe down the table. Is that bad? :paperbag:

You try to tell this face otherwise.

Let her up? I help her up!

That cardboard Tetris-like structure (Katris) leads up to the countertop. Having her come up to supervise meal prep gives her exercise and entertainment and it puts her right at my level for a quick mood and body check. (At 15, all of that is important!) Having her crawl over me while I’m plating her meal is some of my favorite time with her.

I guess I'm in the minority then... I personally don't like it when Felix gets up on the table. He drags stuff down and knocks things over. The hair on the table isn't great either because we often cook for other people. I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate cat hair in their food. :paranoid:

"Let"....that's funny...try "gave up".
I just make sure to wipe down my counters before making food. It's a lot less hassle than attempting to "train" them to not jump up. And who are we kidding here, even if they don't jump up when I'm looking, those little "paw prints" would still be there every morning, when I come home from work and any other time I'm not watching.

I don't "let" them climb onto the table. They do that without my approval. However, they do get down on command. I guess that's about as good as can be expected.

Cats are pretty much allowed anywhere that is safe. Like, not on the stove while I'm cooking for instance. Either of them might be on the table while I'm having breakfast in the morning, holding the paper down for me. So what's a few cat hairs in your cereal?

We compromise. Willow isn’t allowed on kitchen counters but is allowed on the kitchen table, which I rarely use. She likes to look out the window there and watch the kids walking to the nearby elementary school.

I usually eat in the dining room and she isn’t allowed on that table. She has a comfy bed a few feet away though with a great view of the back yard and bird feeders.

As long as there isn't anything currently up there they shouldn't get into, I honestly have no problem with my boys counter/table surfing. I'd feed them up there if I could because all I have to do after is quickly wipe the surface down when they're done, but my mom doesn't like it, so I try to put them back down every time. She doesn't seem to mind too much if they jump on the table, though, since we pretty much only use it to put things on, not to eat.

They are not allowed, but I still find them sitting, lying, grooming on the table. When I yell and pretend to be angry, they just look at me for a second and continue on.

So I give up.

No dull day with cats in the house.
