Hi!:wave3:I used to be a regular like 10 or so years ago, but have been away for a while, and I'm trying to get back into the community... because yer a great crowd!

So.... I'll get around to asking my vet in the next week or 2 when I take Rose to get weighed and hope she's not losing,:yess: but figured I'd see if I could get some answers from other experienced cat parents...

My 7 year old tortie Rose was recently diagnosed with a bladder stone (we took her to the vet for other minor issues, and also for her shots but while checking out stuff they found the stone), and then after 4 weeks with Hills s/d we took her back for another xray and the stone was gone! No surgery needed for my baby! So now we're feeding her (and our other cat, can't separate feedings) a mix of Royal Canin, Hills and Purina Rx bladder stone maintenance foods til we figure out which flavor(s) they like best and then stick to one, or maybe switch up the cans at least... but is it ok to also give them treats? Both cats, especially Rose, love love love Greenies in catnip flavor. And I happened to stock up on a sale just before the vet visit. I know I can ask the vet, but I'm asking you guys too. Special diet plus the occasional snack ok? Like a diabetic human can occasionally indulge in a cookie or whatever? Or should I just donate the treats to the shelter?

According to my vet, the answer is no only prescription food. One of my cats is on RC wet only but I give him a couple of Hills c/d dry as his treat and he loves it. If yours are on wet only give it a try.

Hi. Feeby had to have bladder stone surgery 10 years ago and has since been on RC SO and Hill's C/D - both canned and dry. She has been stone free since (knock on wood). But, I give her hairball treats daily (about 8 a day), as well as Glyco Flex Plus for her arthritis (broken into 5 pieces). For her, it apparently has had no negative impact. She also (:running:) gets a bite of human meat nearly daily (turkey, chicken, fish, as well as an occasional piece of beef).

I think you can ask 6 vets the same question and get 6 different answers. I'm obviously a cruel cat mom by withholding treats.

Thanks for the responses. I'll still ask the vet, but yeah I probably would get different responses from different vets.. I just want the kitties to be both healthy and happy! And they're happy without treats, as long as the bag is in the drawer. Out of sight, out of mind...

Maybe instead of Greenies, give a healthy treat like freeze dried meat treats or small pieces of plain cooked meat. Or offer some fresh cat grass or cat nip.
