At What Point Have They Gone Too Far With Pumpkin Spice?

Indian cooking uses "pumpkin pie spices" a lot. They can be great if used properly, and the spiced food doesn't have to be sweet. So I think the "pumpkin pie spice" Spam could be OK. Not that I'm going to try it, lol. But cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg can be used to improve some foods. Tbh, the spiced Spam is probably better than most PPS products. Still not going to try it :headshake:.
You are correct there. I make Indian and Moroccan recipes that use the spices used for "pumpkin pie spice." None of it is sweet.

I would not eat Spam, but it is predominantly pork, specifically ham. I have seen plenty of ham recipes that include cloves and cinnamon. We rarely eat ham at our house, but I have considered a recipe in the past that had a glaze made with brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, mustard, and orange juice. (One day, I might try it.) So, I guess Spam and pumpkin pie spice would not be too far out there.

Personally, I do not have a problem with pumpkin pie spice other than the fact that I find it a little bland. Well, a lot bland when it is store-bought or in a beverage. I make my own. My daughter will sometimes get me a pumpkin spice latte. I always add some extra ginger, cloves, and some cardamom to it.

What I really like, though, is Torani's pumpkin pie sauce. We use it on French toast mixed with a little syrup.

Pumpkin bars, pumpkin pie and molasses cookies. Those are the only places I want to taste pumpkin spices.
:yeah: I make a couple pans of TDF pumpkin bars every fall. A batch of pumpkin whoopie pies. And a pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. That's pretty much it around here. (A couple years ago, I made a batch of pumpkin sticky buns; they were....different. Rick told me that he wouldn't be offended if I never made them again.)

I don't mind Spam. :paperbag: It may not be my favorite food by any stretch, but I do think it's gotten a bad rep and it's not really deserved. We have it from time to time. But :barfgreen: :barf:to the pumpkin-spice Spam!

. I have seen copycat recipes that also call for chocolate, I just don't like the combination.
I tried putting chocolate in chili once and it's actually good. You're supposed to use unsweetened cocoa powder or a block of baker's chocolate, but even if you use dark eating chocolate, it's just a little so it doesn't add any sweetness. And the chocolate adds a nice richness to it. It's not a sweet and savory combination at all. That's what the cornbread is for ;). Adding unsweetened instant coffee powder is good too and has a similar effect.

I think it's funny when some people say "I don't like PPS products because I don't like pumpkin". Most of them don't have pumpkin or pumpkin flavoring, lol. It's just the spices that normally go into pumpkin pie.

I do enjoy pumpkin spice coffee and most pumpkin spice baked goods. You lose me when you get to pumpkin hummus, spam, etc. I have had pumpkin ravioli and that's quite good.

I told this before. There used to be a cooking show on British TV called two fat ladies. On one show one of them said that "whatever you do, don't let an American in your kitchen, they do the most God awful things to pumpkins". I agree with them.

There's pumpkin spiced ice cream:barf: Seriously. I went to college with someone who said pumpkin spiced ice cream was the best flavor ever. I think she buys it at a local ice cream shop where she grew up and it was only available around Thanksgiving.

muffy muffy I remember the Two Fat Ladies. They were hilarious and I loved watching them. I tried a couple of their recipes and they were excellent. One was some kind of meatloaf; it was good. And I loved the motorcycle! They were a hoot.

I don't know... the idea of a vegetable flavored ice cream is kind of :barfgreen: to me. I'm not a fan of pumpkin spice / fall flavors / scents anyways.

I loved that show, too:) The motorcycle with the sidecar was the best.

I loved the Two Fat Ladies. They were fantastic.

I always :rolleyes2: when someone assumes that all Americans do everything exactly the same. Pumpkin has one use in my house. I give the plain puree to the girls if they have digestive issues. That's it.

I tried the Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream. It wasn't bad. It wasn't my favorite.

I will get my fix with coffee when the weather cools off consistently. Then I'll be good till next year. DH puts cinnamon in his coffee every day; so I don't think it even crosses his mind to go looking for pumpkin spice stuff.

I think most brands of ice cream are yucky anyway (I don't like a grainy, fluffy, or slimy texture; dense and creamy only!), so I haven't tried most PPS ice creams available, but Culver's has the BEST pumpkin pie custard. It just tastes like a slice of pumpkin pie with extra cream, which is how I eat pumpkin pie anyway :D. I don't think I'd seek it out all year long, but I have to get some at least once or twice a year.

I will get one Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks. I too will wait until it really feels like Fall, they start selling them earlier and earlier. That one will be it for me until next year. To hear some people talk it's the best drink and they can't wait until Starbucks has them, I have actually had enough before I completely finish a large one.

I just had a pumpkin cream cold brew from Starbucks. It's good! Not too sweet, not too strong, doesn't taste too much like chai. Very nice. I hope they have a peppermint cream for Christmas, but then again maybe I won't want an iced coffee in December, lol.

A few times during the season I get coffee with just a little of the pumpkin spice sauce added in. Their pumpkin spice flavor is the best by far.

There is a drink that Starbucks used to have on the menu and will still make by special request and that one is a Cinnamon Dolce Latte. Truly delicious and sort of a fall drink without the other pumpkin spice flavors in it.

I was at Starbucks this afternoon and they were giving out samples of the pumpkin cream nitro cold brew - I was surprised how much I liked it too.

My all time favorite drink there is the Holiday Spiced Flat White, espresso with cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg.

DH has been making me pumpkin spice pancakes once or twice a week, so that I have a daily supply. He started doing this last year. They are so GOOD! I just finished some while reading this thread. Since I've been eating them, my hair is shinier, and, for the first time ever, my complexion glows. Pumpkin puree (without anything added) is very good for you. I also keep a small can in the pantry in case the cats get either constipated or diarrhea
(not that they do; it's just that every stray kitten I take in seems to have one or the other). Cats love it. I even give my feral colony some with their Thanksgiving and Christmas turkey dinners; it's their "pumpkin pie"!
