One of my cats believes that the water in his water bowl is for playing rather than drinking. So he dips his paws in the water and flings it all around the room. In addition to wetting everything in throwing distance the water gets dirty fast. An additional (but less problematic) issue is that he likes to bath his stuffed toys in his water bowl. He's a Maine Coon, obviously. Any suggestions for dealing with this besides plastic sheeting?

Maybe you could place some fabric mat under the bowl, like bathroom rug (I’m assuming he only puts paws in there, not flipping it over), so that hopefully it will contain some of the moisture from his fur?
I have some other solutions if he flips the bowl over but I understand he’s not there yet :D

Done something similar (plastic mat with towel) but was wondering about other solutions...

A number of my cats including my current love to dunk their toys in their water dish. I pull springs and Pom poms out of my Willows bowl at least several times a week. Rather than just a mat underneath keeping her bowl inside of a cafeteria type tray keeps the water and splashing somewhat contained. I think the last tray came from Ikea.

Try getting a fountain. Our Sqeeker did the same thing until we got one.
Good to know. I have considered a fountain but figured that it would just create a more obvious play source and lead to even more water play. Maybe I should give it a try.
