I could almost swear she doesn't eat unless I'm around, and often she'll sit by the bowl just staring at it, until I wiggle my fingers over the bowl and say 'Boogity boogity, boogity! Eat your food.'

And, voila, she eats.

I'm not sure which one of us is the weirdo.

Feeby does something similar. She sits in front of her bowl (even when there is some food left in it) and waits, and waits, and waits, until I either jiggle the bowl or add a few more pieces. Sometimes she will eat then, and other times she just walks away.

I don't know about the weirdo part, but talk about being trained - I sure am!!

For what it is worth, Feeby is 14+ yo, and was emaciated when found at around 2 yo. She has never forgotten that apparently, and always wants to make sure there is an adequate amount of food in her bowl. I have also wondered if she just wants to make sure there is enough in her food bowl for her next meal, just in case I might 'croak' before then!!

Krista makes me a creative problem solver. Sometimes I have to cook something for myself. Eat in front of her and not share in order to convince her that eating is something she’d like to try herself. Sometimes I move her food to another location and it’s like,
“ ooh! Food!”

Ok - just so you know, we are all together in the weirdness of cats - Feeby finished her canned food dinner a bit ago. I took up the bowl and then got distracted, so there was an empty space where her dry bowl would have replaced the finished bowl. Next thing I know, she is sitting not more than 2 feet from where her bowl should be (remember, she just finished her dinner). So, I quickly put down her dry food, and she promptly got up and walked away without touching it.

She was letting me know I screwed up and wasn't going to move until I corrected the error of my ways...:salute:

My Meep won't eat unless I sit down and pet her while she dines. If I don't, she walks away without eating and my two guys scarf down her food. It's getting a bit old, but them's the conditions that prevail!

Actually, some good comes from it. She's generally a little meanie, and the petting ritual while doing something she perceives as good gets her purring. It's helped change her behavior and I can now pet her for at least a little while without getting bitten (most of the time).

We have this whole feeding routine where I weigh out her food (usually from two or three different cans) into a baggie, microwave a cup of water, submerge the baggie into the water, squish until food is warm, turn baggie out onto plate, dump water, and then bring the plate to one of her two feeding spots. She will sit patiently watching me through all those steps. Once she sees the plate, she usually pops up with a trill because she knows the food prep routine has finally come to a soon-to-be satisfying conclusion.

That's the usual routine.

Just now, she must have missed the part where I took the plate and set it in her location. When I went back to wash the baggie out, she's making another "feed me" lap around my legs. So I picked up her other plate (I have two identical plates I switch off) to which she snapped to attention and walked her to the first plate using an empty plate in my hand.
