Tell Me How Your Cat Has Inspired You

I've struggled with depression in my life -- I still have bad days, and when I do, I have something to get out of bed for. I have to get up, to take care of them.

If I come home from work and I've had a rough day, seeing them rush to the door when I come in lifts my spirits instantly. They bring so much joy into my life, and fullfillment. It's difficult to put it into words.

My Beamer and my Missy (no pictures of her) taught me so much of what it is to be a good kitty mother. Their lives paved the way for the two sweet cats (Windy and Theo) that I have right now. They taught me how to take care of a cat, what to do and not to do, and especially, how to love unconditionally.
I haven't been able to write Beamer's tribute although he passed in January of 2018. I know I must do it for him because of what he meant to me. But I just can't do it yet without the crying. This computer is my work's computer so I can't do it here. One day.

It is so true! No matter what the day may bring, we always know that we have someone in our life who loves us unconditionally and whose loyalty is 100%.

Having so much experience of saying (temporary) goodbye to beloved ones, I have some rituals that help to comfort me in these times. If a loved one is at rest close by, I often plant a memorial plant above their resting place. Also, I make a photo album in their memory. Sometimes, when I'm fortunate, I donate to a cat rescue/sanctuary in tribute. There is often a song associated with a beloved, and I may request it on my favorite radio station, with a dedication to my beloved one. And also, when I have been fortunate, I buy a small piece of jewelry or clothing to wear as a memento. These things are comforting to me.
