My aunt recently passed away and I have become the proud owner of her cat. Having virtually no experience of cats I wonder if anyone can help with a couple of questions (to begin with).
It is male, 10 years old and has been neutered. Unfortunately I can find no record of any vaccination he has received so can anyone advice on what is needed? and, secondly, should I get pet insurance for him? Many thanks in advance.

Regards
D

Hi D, sorry to hear about your aunt. That’s a wonderful gesture you did for her.

Any chance you have the name of the clinic she went to? They would have his vaccination records.

Pet insurance is a personal choice. I put money aside for emergencies instead of paying for insurance as it may or may not cover what is needed + there is usually a deductible anyway.

Welcome to the wonderful world of cat guardianship :)!

I would love to see pics of him when you have a chance.

Hi and welcome!! Good luck with finding out who your aunt used as her vet - they will have everything you need to know about your 'new' cat. If you don't find the vet's name, contact all the vets in the immediate area and explain why/what you are looking for. Under the circumstances, I am sure they will cooperate.

Keep us posted, and ask all the questions you want!! And, yes, as FelisCatus FelisCatus stated, love to see a pic when you can find time to post one!

Welcome to TCS! :wave3: I'm glad you joined the site and came here for advice about your aunt's cat. Bless you for taking him into your home and caring for him after your aunt's passing. Regarding your question about vaccines, I agree to try and locate the vet your aunt used if possible. Otherwise, here is a guide for you to look over that discusses vaccinations:

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are more than glad to help and support you. Best of luck! :goldstar:

For most of the vaccinations there are blood tests that can be done to check the titers. My vet only gives the vaccines if the titers are too low, indicating that the cat is not protected. Your vet will be the person to give you the best information about vaccinations.
