I'm sure she recognized you just fine. But she wanted you to leave her alone so she could continue her little adventure.

I believe Melody recognizes me, even through a window. There is a narrow glass window beside my front door. For privacy, I'd put a decorative film on it. But, after adopting Melody in October 2017 and watching her try to look out the glass, I removed the lowest 8-10 inches of film for her. Now, when I get home from work, I'll walk around from the garage to get the mail and I'll see her little face there. She is just looking around until I get close enough. Then, I can see the moment she knows I am home; she'll be all paws pressed on the window and then rubbing against it from the inside. She knows it is me! [Nice way to be welcomed home...of course, then when I come in the door, there are the obvious complaints and demands, but...I have been gone and she is hungry.]

Haha! My husband "scolded" her when I got her back that day. He was saying, "You want to leave this house? Leave! I will not search for you!" Then scooped her up and kissed her. Lol.
