My cat sounds congested and has been through many courses of antibiotics for URI but none helped. She doesn’t sneeze, cough or snore. I just sometimes hear her wheezing when she breathes but that’s it. Does anyone have any ideas about what could be the cause?

My daughter's cat does that and my vet is not concerned. She says that he may have a birth defect. It does bother me sometimes because it can get loud although he plays just fine as if he doesn't notice it. I hope that others chime in on what it could be.

Hi!
Does it make any difference if you put her in a bathroom, close the door and run a steamy shower for 10-12 minutes, a couple times a day?

Does she ever breathe with her mouth open when she's wheezing? Have you ever noticed her breathing with her mouth open? If so, and the antibiotics haven't done anything, you need to reevaluate with your vet. Mouth breathing is a serious thing so if you have noticed it, contact your vet immediately!

If not, I think I would still call your vet just to make sure there isn't something obstructing her airways. Nasal polyps come to mind, but I believe there is more issues with coughing and sneezing.
