THE PURPOSE OF THE PRE-ATTACK/POUNCE, BUTT WIGGLE???.. I've watched my cats as we play, and everyTime they stalk something, Literally right before they go after whatever it is they are stalking, they do a little butt wiggle!. I know you all must've seen this with your cat, was just wondering if there was just an actual purpose that they do it. Like does it help them calculate the distance they need to pounce maybe? IDK, was just curious on this cute little behavior!!:D:hearthrob:

I really believe it is the excitement, they can't contain themselves. It also helps to plant their feet more firmly to spring forward, but they kinda go overboard! I've seen my cats stalking a bird/mouse only to have it flee when they give themselves away with those wiggles and the famous mouth chattering!

It helps them balance and ground themselves to make a big pounce with both legs. It is like a runner using a starting block at the start of a race. And they use it to test the ground to make sure it is a stable surface to propel themselves off of. It’s also very cute :) :) :)

It is freaking adorable:loveeyes:.. thank you all for your answers! Something I just haven't been able to really figure out on my own, and have always wondered the "why" to it every single time I see one of my kitties do it!

My new kitty is such a butt wiggler. And she loves practicing her pounce when we play. Her twist on the classic butt wiggle is that she always lifts one of her paws as she does it, ready to strike. Super cute, and now I know that she's a righty.
