Hi,
I am sorry to bother you but I just wanted to know if I messed anything. So I have a 9 almost 10 month old kitten since she is 2 months old. I love her to pieces. But lately she has become a bit distant with us. And she does not play. I have tried many many times for a long time but nothing seems to work. And I am a bit worried. Is it because she is getting older or because something is wrong or because I play badly and di not let her win enought? I miss her being close to me a lot. I used to play like 3 hours a day and I miss her getting excited when I threw something in the air. Any ideas ?

A sudden change in behavior can be a sign of illness in cats. Can you schedule a checkup with your vet?

I would not worry as long as she is healthy. She is growing out of her kitten stage. Just keep offering to play with her and making a fuss of her as you have been doing. All three of mine became a little indifferent at about one year old but after a few months became more playful and affectionate. Now they are always looking to play and want cuddles. I know it is upsetting right now but I'm sure she will become playful and loving again. Let us know how she is doing.

Teenagers have moods! ;)

If she is healthy and no other abnormal behavior is presenting, let her ride it out. She will find the joy in playing again soon.

Good luck!

Have you tried different toys?
Catnip
Crumpled paper balls
Wand toys with a snake/mouse or other objects at the end
fuzzy mice with rabbit fur that rattle- these are my cats favorite- they carry them around the house like babies
Yeowzaa cat nip yellow bananas

Try variety of toys. Cats are diverse, and have their own likes/dislikes. Popular toys we've tried are wands with feathers, foil-like balls to play on the ground, small cat-nip toys shaped like mice etc. We always have treats around, so they get rewarded after play.

I play a game with my cats using treats. We have a long narrow hallway where I sit down and use my legs to create a "barrier". I throw the treats one way and the cats run and highjump over my legs to get the treats! They love it! And they look so cute too.

Also rotate the toys so they don't get bored. Just playing in a different spot in the home can help to :) A sure fire attention getter is dragging a bathrobe sash or a long feather toy behind you like a tail so your cat can 'stalk' you. Also I bet a bird watching window would be appreciated.
